Drum Roll Please...

In April of 2015, the Rutherfords are moving to...

Lima, Peru!

We are thrilled! Not only will John get Spanish training (and me too, hopefully) but we are heading to a beautiful city on the Pacific Ocean, close to the Andes and the Amazon, the home of Lake Titicaca (he he) and Machu Picchu, and the "gastronomical capitol of South America" (according to someone - hey, there's a Cordon Bleu there!). "Temperatures rarely fall below 12 °C (54 °F) or rise above 29 °C (84 °F) throughout the entire year" according to Wikipedia. It's a great sized post for us with lots of families, supposedly good housing, and the travel opportunities should be fabulous. And on top of all that, we get to come home to the States for eight or nine months in between posts. Plus it's only one hour behind D.C., so we won't have to adjust to a twelve hour jet lag for a very, very long time. Yaaaaay!

Now when you guys tell me you'll come visit us at our next post, I might actually believe you. ;)

  4. How wonderful! We had 2 sets of close friends who travelled there and the area this winter...raves about all....obviously not only recognition of what you all have done and are doing but a kind of reward for handling this post with such grace, finesse and competency.....Way to go....not too long ahead and this news will perhaps further enrich the time left where you are....
    Congrats to the Rutherfords (all)

  5. YAY! Lima was on our last overseas bid list (i.e., not the most recent as we knew we were coming home). It's a really well-spoken-of popular place. I'm sure you'll love it there.

    1. Thanks Lynne! I hope we like it - at the very least it gets us Spanish and the opportunity to explore South America, both things I really wanted. It was a toss-up between a few of the WHA posts, but Lima was 15% (so we fulfill our hardship requirement) and the housing sounded good, plus it wasn't as far away from home as some of the other options. And the food is supposed to be great!
